![]() My car has been burning an excessive amount of oil between oil changes that I had to check it weekly for a few months. Now $5300 later, and many months of stress over my car not being safe, I am in a much worse position and Newman is not taking responsibility for anything. I do know that when I brought my car to Newman in June, it ran fine. In the interim, I talked with other mechanics who say everything Newman touched in their first repair could cause the current problem with engine now. He told me nothing will be covered by the 2-year warranty. They would be removing the head on Monday 10/4/21 to find out if there are other problems. Andy called last Friday 10/1 and said so far they found a hole in a valve, the catalytic converter (honeycomb) is chewed up, and the exhaust valve is bad. The same mechanic who worked on my car in June is now diagnosing the new engine failure. Update from : On 9/20/21 my car had major engine failure with horrible shaking and no compression while I was driving on a highway. See new complaint regarding engine failure after repair. Chelsea said there was a 2-year warranty on those engine and brake repairs. Repairs included replacement of pistons, gaskets, sealant, coolant, rings, seals, timing chain, exhaust manifold, pump, spark plugs and brakes. Instead of assisting me with getting the car repaired under warranty, they passed the buck and made me responsible for the repair. GM did settle the lawsuit for some of the vehicle years, but did not cover my 2015 which had the same exact problems. Worse, the suits say, GM allegedly failed to offer vehicle owners and lessees any help by way of repairs or recalls. ![]() The safety risk posed by the apparent defect is substantial, given that an engine operating without sufficient oil could wear down and fail prematurely, even during the course of normal operation, due to friction.Īccording to the lawsuits, GM, for its part, actively concealed from consumers that its Equinox and Terrain vehicles suffered from an oil consumption defect. The lawsuits against GM allege that the 2.4-liter EcoTech engines found in model years 2010-2017 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs burn an excessive amount of oil. I found out after my repair that there was a class action lawsuit against Chevrolet regarding this engine burning oil. My car ran fine and had no issues with oil dripping or smoke coming from my exhaust, but I decided to get it repaired because of potential safety issues if my car seized up when I was driving.Īt no time did Newman Chevrolet advise me of the ongoing issue and massive complaints due to excessive oil consumption in Chevrolet's 2.4L EcoTech engine which is the one I have. I waited until I could afford the repair, then drove my car to Newman in June of 2021. Tests proved engine was burning excessive oil. Chelsea said I needed to do 2000 mile oil consumption test which, after completion, put me out of warranty for dates and miles. I complained to Newman Chevrolet about excessive oil consumption in November of 2020, within dates of warranty, and miles on car were under 100,000, still under warranty. ![]() And hard to find He highly suggest trading it in, but what will I get for it with the condition it is in? NOT MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!. He indicated that theses engines are dropping like flies and with the demand any replacement engine price is going through the roof. Spoke with my reputable mechanic and he suggest a rebuilt motor or used motor if I wish to fix the problem. Now it is running ruff and black smoke will puff out as the catalytic converter burns it off. Update from : Have been adding oil as needed but now it is beginning to burn oil and you can smell it as you walk up to the vehicle. GM and our Government need to make it right! They have known about this for years! If it breaks down then it breaks down, it doesn't smoke or smell like burning oil, it just uses it and at $8 a quart that's going to be expensive. This is not right!!!! We should get better service out of this engine. Wife ran it for a week and a half and had to add 2 quarts of oil. Runs okay but not as good of mileage as it should get. ![]() I took to our reputable mechanic and had approximately 2 quarts of oil in it. Check engine light came on after fix and oil change. It had an oil seal leak fixed a while back. It's still a nice looking SUV - no wrecks or major body damage, the paint looks good. ![]()

For example, if you moved the counterweight far enough away from the fulcrum, you could theoretically double the maximum capacity of a forklift without increasing the size of the counterweight provided the engine and hydraulics can provide enough power to lift the new rated capacity. As you move the counterweight further from the fulcrum, the ratio between how heavy the counterweight is and the unit’s maximum capacity decreases. This difference allows the rear counterweight to offset the added weight of a load (i.e., counterbalance it) and ensure the unit’s stability. Since the weight of the load is positioned closer to the fulcrum, more force is required to move it than the rear counterweight. Basically, a forklift is able to lift loads without tipping forward by operating as a lever, where the force applied to either side of the pivot point is a function of their relative distance from the fulcrum (i.e., the front load wheels). As mentioned above, the underlying principles behind the counterbalanced forklift were first discovered by the ancient Greeks, who first detailed the physics behind the function levers in the 3rd century BCE. How this works, at least in terms of what we can cover in a 1,500 word blog post, is a relatively simple concept: the lever. While a bit on the nose for some, this is why these units are referred to as counterbalanced forklifts as the heavy weight at the rear of the unit is intended to offset or counterbalance the weight that can be added to the front of the unit whenever it is loaded. Since a forklift is designed to lift and transport heavy loads using front-mounted mast, however, its center of gravity must be positioned towards the back end of the unit to accommodate these changes in operating weight. This low center of gravity and even weight distribution helps the vehicle maintain balance under normal operations. In an ordinary vehicle, or one that doesn’t have a mast or lift components, the center of gravity typically lies dead center at the bottom of the chassis. There’s a reason why what you likely picture in your head when you think of a lift truck is known as a counterbalanced forklift. The Basic Principles of the Counterbalance In fact, these laws and principles are ancient, literally, they were discovered thousands of years ago in ancient Greece. Most traditional forklifts and lift trucks – even the most innovative high-tech models, like those that are capable of moving in 4 directions with an articulating mast or boom – rely on set of simple physical laws to stay upright while lifting a heavy load or while travelling along a curve. Nor are the basic principles behind the operation of a counterbalanced forklift based on some ground-breaking technology or innovative AI. Just how does this work?ĭespite what your 5-year-old self might proclaim, it is not done with magic. increments) and/or extending it 24’ or more into the air while keeping all 4 wheels firmly on the ground.Īt the end of all this wonderment, you’ll probably ask a simple question with a deceptively simple answer: just how does it work? These same sorts of questions might also pop into your head as that same forklift rounds a tight corner with that elephant-sized load then travels up or down a ramp while maintaining its stability. As the unit lifts a load the size and weight of an elephant into the air, you might find yourself wondering: what keeps the forklift from tipping forward into an abrupt and impromptu meeting with the ground? This feeling is particularly apparent if the forklift is elevating a heavy load (which is almost always the case as forklift weight capacities are typically measured in 1,000 lb. If you’re not in the forklift or material handling industry, or are unfamiliar with heavy duty forklifts in general, you might wonder if the laws of physics are being violated while watching a state-of-the-art forklift in action, especially one with a quad mast and/or a bulky, extremely heavy load. ![]() ![]() ![]() If the screen powers on and stays on then you have successfully soldered in the resistor! When the resistor is in place, I make sure that the solder connections are good by reattaching the bottom LCD, holding the battery in place and flicking the power switch. After installing the resistor make sure to reconnect the Wi-Fi/BIOS chip or your DS screen will just stay white! Without making this connection the DS will not boot. These 2 pads are a test point for the top LCD so by putting a load across these 2 points we can mimic the top LCD still being attached. If you’re using an SMD resistor you will want to use your tweezers to position it on top of the tinned solder pads LEDA2 and LEDC2. If you look closely at the motherboard near the “D-Pad”contacts you will see 5 gold pads that we will be using:Īfter tinning all of the pads it’s time to add the resistor. With the bottom LCD detached and put safely to one side, we can progress with installing the resistor and speakers. Lift the black tab of the connector very carefully as this is a very fragile part. Don’t forget to disconnect the digitiser cable too! This cable comes off of the top right of the bottom LCD and goes to the back of the motherboard. Similar to the top LCD connection, the bottom LCD is removed by lifting the black bar on the connector and then gently pulling the cable out. We now want to remove the bottom LCD so we don’t damage it during the next couple of steps. Once the bar has been released, you can pull the LCD cable out and separate the 2 parts of the DS. Disconnect this by lifting the small black bar with your scalpel or small flat head screwdriver. ![]() You will see that the top LCD is connected to the motherboard at the top left of the board. Now that all the cables have been disconnected, open the DS back up and push he bottom screen through. ![]() you should also remove the Wi-Fi/BIOS board and the L & R shoulder buttons. The Wi-Fi antenna will need to be removed from under the DS cartridge slot. ![]() you will see one more cross head screw to the left.Īfter removing this last cross head screw, remove the Wi-Fi antenna (black cable) and the microphone cable (white cable) from the motherboard. Once you have removed all of the screws, you can remove the back casing of the DS to reveal the back of the motherboard. In the pictures below, I am using a DS Lite however, the mod is practically identical for the orginal “fat” DS. First thing is first, lets disassamble the Nintendo DS. You will need the following to do this mod: So with the main issue being “you need light in order to see the screen”, this mod will allow you to use the Nintendo DS’ bright backlit screen to play your Gameboy Advance games wherever you are, regardless of light conditions! The main issue with the old Gameboys is that the screens had no light to them! Well not until the Gameboy Advance SP but let’s pretend you forgot that one. If you’re like me, there’s nothing like playing the classic games from your childhood like Mario, Pokemon and Zelda alike. Back in the day, I would spend countless amounts of hours on these, all from the comfort of the back seat in a car on long road trips. In this tutorial I am going to walk you through reusing an old/broken Nintendo DS or DS Lite for playing your old Gameboy Advance games on a much brighter and clearer screen. ![]() ![]() Some millennials and members of Generation Z have called out boomers for being close-minded and behind-the-times, especially when it comes to unprogressive views on such things as gender, sexuality, and youth culture more generally (such as the viral “Kidz Bop Karen” woman video videotaped in a road confrontation). In September 2018, the “Speak to the Manager” haircut meme merged with Karen when it was uploaded to the Karen subreddit by user vidoardes.īeginning in at least 2017, Karens have been closely associated with Baby Boomers. The “Speak to the Manager Haircut” meme has been around since 2014. This haircut is a short, angled blonde bob, sometimes called a “mom haircut.” “Speak to the manager” refers to escalating complaints or demands from retail or restaurant workers to their managers-a stereotypical behavior of Karen. The character was further developed in December 2017 thanks to a subreddit dedicated to mocking the imagined Karen (somewhat like Cook’s “The Friend Nobody Likes” bit). Tropes that developed about Karen here were that she is an annoying (and always annoyed) middle-aged, suburban, minivan-driving white, divorced mother of poorly behaved boys (of whom she has custody) who has a so-called “speak to the manager” haircut. The user refers to this supposed kill-joy as Karen: “Oh shit, Karen brought her stupid Nintendo thing to the party again. Record of the insult Karen appears as early as September 2016 when a Tumblr user, joematar, made fun of a promo for Nintendo Switch in which a white woman (appearing to be in her late 20s or early 30s) brings the gaming device to a party. According to Social Security data, Karen was indeed the fourth most popular name for newborn girls in the 1960s, peaking at #3 in 1965. ![]() Whatever the origin of the slang, the name Karen, apparently, is popularly thought of as a generic-seeming name for a middle-aged white woman of a certain generation. Another suggestion is that it comes from a 2005 bit by Dane Cook called “The Friend Nobody Likes.” (The friend was named Karen.) An additional explanation is that it comes from the character Karen in the 2004 film Mean Girls, who’s the subject of the popular quote: “Oh my God, Karen, you can’t just ask someone why they’re white.” It’s even been put forth that Karen comes from the even earlier 1990 film Goodfellas, in which one of the characters is named Karen. A Becky, for example, is a stereotype for a “basic” young, white woman, while a Chad, in other corners of the internet, stands in for a cocky, young “dudebro.”īut, why the name Karen? Karen has widely been credited to Black Twitter in the 2010s. Karen joins a trend on the internet in the 2010s of using a first name to make fun of certain kinds of people. ![]() ![]() ![]() Don’t waste your time and join us to enjoy hours of endless chatting with our amazing ladies!
